Sale of IDR 1.3 quadrillion OpenAI Shares Threatened After A

OpenAI's employee share sale plan, which would theoretically be worth around US$86 billion (around Rp. 1.3 quadrillion) to the startup, is in limbo following the dismissal of CEO Sam Altman and the departure of a number of CEOs, The Information reported. Saturday (18/11) local time.

The tender offer, led by Thrive Capital, has not yet closed but is in the final stages and is expected to be completed early next month, the report added, citing a person familiar with the matter.

OpenAI and Thrive Capital did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

This news emerged after the board of the company behind ChatGPT fired Altman on Friday (17/11).

Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI, who stepped down from the board as chairman, as part of a management shake-up, will leave the company.

The departure came as a surprise to many employees who learned of the sudden management change from internal messages and the company's public blog.

Backed by billions of dollars from Microsoft, which does not have a board seat on the nonprofit governing the startup, OpenAI kicked off the generative artificial intelligence (AI) craze last November with the release of ChatGPT. This was reported by Reuters, Sunday (19/11) local time.
