The Ministry of Communication and Information plans to hold a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Indonesian literacy activists to further discuss plans for digitizing Indonesian script onto digital devices on August 16 2023.

This FGD is the beginning of a series of activities that will be carried out from August to November. The event will be held in stages starting from FGDs, virtual trials of the Indonesian script keyboard, discussions with digital device manufacturers, to the soft launching of the Indonesian script virtual keyboard.

This activity was facilitated by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics which is under the work unit of the Directorate General of Post and Information Resources and Equipment (SDPPI).

According to the Director General of SDPPI Ismail, in a press release on Tuesday, his party supports discussions between Indonesian script activists and IT experts so that they can present Indonesian scripts that have received the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) on digital devices, such as Kawi, Pegon, Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese.

"The Directorate General of SDPPI facilitates the activities of Indonesian literacy activists, because this is a good and ideal effort to preserve Indonesian culture in digital development. "The series of discussions on planning a virtual Indonesian script keyboard on mobile devices will later be socialized to all vendors," said Ismail.

The Indonesian script activists involved in this activity are representatives of each script that has received SNI approval, including Setya Amrih Prasaja and Arief Budiarto (Javanese script), Dadan Sutisna and Agung Zaenal (Sundanese script), Carma Citrawati and Cokorda Rai Adi Pramartha (Balinese script). script), Diaz Nawaksara (Pegon script), as well as Aditya Bayu Perdana and Ilham Nurwasah (Kawi script) whose coordination was facilitated by the Nusantara Digital Culture Foundation (YBND).

Chair of the Nusantara Digital Culture Foundation, Amelya Nugroho expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Communication and Information through SDPPI, which has been willing to facilitate this series of events.

He said that the availability of Indonesian script on every digital device marketed in Indonesia is the main goal and long-standing dream of Indonesian script activists and regional language teachers in schools, as well as teachers in Islamic boarding schools.

"Thank you, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, for being willing to facilitate this because this is one of the main objectives of a long series of Indonesian script digitization activities in Indonesia," concluded Amel.
